Setting up and maintaining Christmas lights takes time and money. Leaving Christmas lights on all of the time is a fire hazard and will waste expensive electricity. On the other hand, remembering to turn off Christmas lights is often difficult in the holiday season. Knowing how to set up a timer for Christmas lights will save you time and money in the holiday season.
The first thing you must do is plug your lights into an electrical outlet, and make sure all of the lights are in working order. The lights will blink when they are ready to be programmed. However, different types of lights have different signals, so check the instruction manual to see what type of signal your lights will give when they are ready for programming.
Set and save the time
Scroll through the numbers to set the correct time. If the timer is not using military time, make sure the AM and PM settings are correct. Once the time is correct, save it. Refer to the instruction manual if you are not sure how to do this.
Set and save the start time
Press the mode button and select the start time setting. When in the correct mode, scroll through the numbers and choose the time of day you want to turn on the lights. Check the AM and PM settings. If they match, save the start time.
Set and save the shut-off time
Press the mode button and select the shut-off time setting. When in the correct mode, scroll through the numbers and choose the time of day you want to shut off the lights. Double check the AM and PM settings. If they match, save the shut-off time.
Connect the lights and timer
Now you can plug your lights into the timer. They should turn on and off according to the timer settings. If there is a need to reset the timer, unplug it to erase all settings and start over from the first step.
